Indian Tiger Stripe Espresso Blend
Available from £3.00 to £23.50 In Stock!
The finest green coffee beans are blended by Allanason's in India to a simple, but classic, recipe, then roasted by us to create a thick, sweet, rich espresso which attributes its name to the fantastic striped crema, which resembles a tiger's coat, on the top of the prepared espresso.
We have made an extensive description of the process that these beans go through at origin on our Indian Monsooned Malabar Coffee page
We have very close relationships with the producers of our four main Indian coffees. Through our trusted importer, DR Wakefield, we have been lucky enough to have found a flexible, high-quality and consistent producer, with enough volume and experience to give us very high-standards and great consistency, year on year.
The Allana Group was established 1865 and today exports over a million metric tonnes of coffee, meat, fruit, vegetables and spices. Allana have been awarded a very rare recognition by the Indian Ministry of Commerce which is that of Premier Trading House. Allana Group is the third largest exporter of coffee in India. In 1982, Allana first entered into exporting coffee and initially set up its coffee division office in Bangalore, in the State of Karnataka (where 70% of Indian coffee is grown). In 1992, Allansonsons set up its own coffee curing (monsooning) site, located at Hassan in Karnataka which is situated between Chickmagalur and Coorg this then led to significant expansion and modernisation within the coffee division. Allanasons also monsoon their coffee in the coastal city of Mangalore using the warm sea winds to dry the coffee in a traditional but controlled manner.
Allanasons exports between 24,000 and 30,000 tonnes of coffee (including Indian Cherry Robusta) per year. They also have the flexibility to offer several types of specialty coffee and also offer single estate, single area or different methods of processing, washed, natural etc.
It was a collaboration between DR Wakefield and Allanasons that caused Indian Tiger Stripes coffee to be ‘invented’ around 2007. The reason for the name ‘Tiger Stripe’ is because of the thick banded crema produced when the coffee is extracted on an espresso machine. During the cupping, the comment was jokingly made that the crema resembled the stripes of a tiger, and the name stuck. We sell over five tonnes of this excellent quality, beautifully flavoured coffee each year and have many, many satisfied repeat customers.
